چکیده

In this article global estimates of 100-yr return values of wind speed and significant wave height are presented. These estimates are based on the ECMWF 40-yr Re-Analysis (ERA-40) data and are linearly corrected using estimates based on buoy data. This correction is supported by global Topographic Ocean Experiment (TOPEX) altimeter data estimates. The calculation of return values is based on the peaksover-threshold method. The large amount of data used in this study provides evidence that the distributions of significant wave height and wind speed data belong to the domain of attraction of the exponential. Further, the effect of the space and time variability of significant wave height and wind speed on the prediction of their extreme values is assessed. This is done by performing detailed global extreme value analyses using different decadal subperiods of the 45-yr-long ERA-40 dataset.

AN APPROACH TOWARDS WAVE CLIMATE STUDY IN THE PERSIAN GULF AND THE GULF OF OMAN: SIMULATION AND VALIDATION

This article describes the 11-year wave simulation (1992-2002) in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman using the input data derived from European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). The ECMWF 10 meter wind field and spectral wave boundary condition at 18 ْN degree are input into one of the latest versions of numerical wave models (3rd generation) after a few local modifications. ...

Long Term Assessment of Ers-1 and Ers-2 Wind and Wave Products

The wind and wave products from the ERS mission provide an invaluable data set. This paper provides an overview of the performance of both ERS-1 and ERS-2 products on the basis of surface winds from the consistent ECMWF 40-Year Reanalysis (ERA-40), and wave fields from a long term stand-alone wave model hindcast run forced by ERA-40 winds. Furthermore, buoy and other in-situ measurements are us...

پیش یابی 60 ساله مشخصات امواج در جنوب خلیج فارس با استفاده از مدلSWAN به روش شبه زمانی

The goal of this study was to simulate the wave characteristics in the south of Persian Gulf over a 60 year period. Wind data from the study area including offshore measurement, satellite observation and numerical atmospheric models were collated and analyzed. The modified NCEP/NCAR wind field was chosen as input to the SWAN model which has the longest duration among wind data sources. SWAN mod...

NOTES AND CORRESPONDENCE Evaluation of the NCEP–NCAR and ECMWF 15- and 40-Yr Reanalyses Using Rawinsonde Data from Two Independent Arctic Field Experiments*

Many aspects of reanalysis data are of high quality over regions with sufficiently dense data, but the accuracy is uncertain over areas with sparse observations. NCEP–NCAR reanalysis (NNR) and ECMWF 15/40-Yr Re-Analysis (ERA-15 and ERA-40) variables are compared to two independent rawinsonde datasets from the periphery of the Arctic Ocean during the late 1980s and early 1990s: the Coordinated E...
